Music Tech Lab - Tech Open Air

Music Tech Lab is a series of talks and workshops targeted at musicians, producers and music industry representatives that seek to inspire and give insight into current developments and opportunities in the intersection of music and technology – in a hands-on kind of way. No special knowledge is required!

You will learn about VR in music, the special requirements for music in games, what 3D sound is all about and if your music tech startup idea is as promising as you think.

To apply for any of the below sessions, let us know a few details. We look forward to welcoming you to our Music Tech Lab Program.

APPLY TO ALL SESSIONS HERE  (Deadline: July 4, 2017)

Session 1: Music meets VR

Build your VR music – instruments, synthesisers, Drumsets, weird sound generator – whatever you have in mind! Bring your own ideas, Instruments or just a playlist of Music and learn how to build stunning VR Worlds in realtime with the tools VVVV and Unity.

We will start with an introduction to the tools and give some guidance and inspiration before we group up for hands-on prototyping & programming with state-of-the-art VR equipment. This workshop encourages musicians and programmers to cooperate on a practical project in small groups of 4 or 5 people. The 3-hour guided workshop will make you realise how quickly and easily you can enhance your music using VR tools – or the other way around.

If you don’t want to take part in the workshop, you can just drop by for the opening talk, which will focus on the possibilities and current state of technology!

This session is powered by INVR & vvvv.

Session 2: Adaptive Game Sound – An introduction to designing audible content for a nonlinear medium

In this session, we’ll be looking at the differences between creating sounds for a linear medium like movies or audio plays and a nonlinear medium like video games. The sound design in a game should be highly adaptive to the players behaviour to give them an intensive and immersive gameplay feeling.

We will also be examining the techniques provided by a middleware like fmod Studio, not only to create event-based ingame sound design but also adaptive game music which responds to the states of a game always depending on the players interactions.

This session is powered by the SAE Institute.

Session 3: Capital Raising Strategies for Music Technology Companies & Pitch Session

A discussion with startup companies and creators in the music technology spectrum interested in effectively raising capital to fund their businesses. Opportunities and challenges across both North America and Europe will be covered, followed by pitch sessions and a Q&A.

Apply now for one of 5 exclusive spots to pitch to Rishi Patel, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Plus Eight Equity Partners (New York) and Tuhin Roy, VP of New Digital Business at the Universal Music Group (Los Angeles) – or just apply for a spot to listen in! Seats are limited!

Session 4: Hands-on: Object-based audio production using SpatialSound Wave technology

SpatialSound Wave is an object-based 3D audio technology developed by Fraunhofer-Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT. This hands-on workshop gives an introduction to the system and shows the audio production workflow. A professional audio engineer will share his experiences in producing content with SpatialSound Wave.

This session is powered by the Fraunhofer-Institute for Digital Media Technology IDM.
